1. John Clotterbooke, of King Stanley, tucker, will dated 8 May 1557, proved at Gloucester 1557. married Margerie; ? she buried at King Stanley 23 July 1583. Issue:-

(i) William Cloterbooke, of whom next (2).

(ii) Thomas Cloterbooke, living 1557.

(iii) Edie, living 1557.


2. William Cloterbooke, of King Stanley, will dated 4 March, 16 Eliz.., proved at Gloucester 30 October 1574; ? buried at King Stanley 27 February 1573/4 . married Agnes, she living 1574 and had issue:-

(i) Arthur Cloterbooke, of whom next (3).

(ii) John Cloterbooke, living 1574.

(iii) Elizabeth, living 1575.

(iv) Alyce, married at King Stanley 10 April 1589 Richard Heaven.


3. Arthur Cloterbooke, of King Stanley, clothier, died there 23 July 1619; buried there 24 July 1619, will dated 3 September 1618, proved pcc 8 November 1619. His inquisition post-mortem taken at Wotton-Under-Edge, 9 October, 17 James I., shows that he was possessed of various lands in King Stanley, which he acquired partly by inheritance and partly by purchase, and that William Clutterbuck, his son and heir, was aged 21 and more at his father's death.

He married at King Stanley, 4 September 1592 Alice Merrett, and by her (who married 2ndly, at King Stanley, 17 April 1620 Thomas Pegler), he had issue:-

(i) James Clotterbooke, baptised. at King Stanley, 19 August 1593, buried there 14 June 1617, s.p.

(ii) William Clotterbooke, of whom next (4).

(iii) Thomas Clotterbooke, baptised King Stanley 8 July 1599; living 1618

(iv) Richard Clotterbooke, baptised King Stanley 4 October 1601, living 1618

(v) Jeremy Clotterbooke baptised King Stanley 27 June 1606; living 1618.

(vi) George Clotterbooke, died young s.p.

(vii) Margery baptised King Stanley 25 May 1595, living 1618.

(viii) Alice baptised King Stanley 4 March 1603, living 1618.

(ix) Mary baptised King Stanley 14 August 1608, living 1618.

4. William Clotterbooke, of Leonard Stanley, baptised. at King Stanley 5 June 1597, buried at Leonard Stanley, 9 January 1657/8. married (1) Israel ? daughter of Richard Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley. He married 2ndly, Margery.

(i) George Clotterbooke, baptised at King Stanley 12 September 1624.

(ii) William Clotterbooke, baptised at King Stanley 12 April 1628.

(iii) Richard Clotterbooke, of Leonard Stanley, broad-weaver baptised there 2 August 1629; buried there 24 August 1669. Will dated 22 August 1669, proved at Gloucester, 16 May 1670; married Eleanor, she buried at Leonard Stanley 16 February 1664. Issue:-

5. Samuel Clotterbooke of Leonard Stanley, broad weaver, baptised at Leonard Stanley 22 April 1633, buried there 4 May 1713; Will dated 24 April 1713, proved at Gloucester 7 May 1713. By Deborah his wife who was buried at Leonard Stanley 1 May 1700 he had issue:-

(i) William Clotterbooke of whom next (6).

(ii) Thomas Clotterbooke baptised at Leonard Stanley 18 October 1660; buried there 2 March 1699 s.p. Admon. granted to father 1699.

(iii) John Clutterbuck, of whom hereafter (15).

(iv) Samuel Clutterbuck, of Leonard Stanley, broad weaver, will dated 4 March 1713/4; proved at Gloucester, 1714; buried at Leonard Stanley 9 March 1713/4. married (1) at King Stanley 1 April 1684 Hannah Dane, ? she buried there 30 November 1697, and had issue :-

1. Thomas Clotterbooke, of Leonard Stanley, baptised at King Stanley 26 September 1695; died 7 June 1753 aged 58, buried at King Stanley, 10 June 1753, m.i. Admon. 26 June 1753. married Mary, who died 2 January 1766; buried at Leonard Stanley 5 January 1766 m.i., and had issue:-

(1) Thomas Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 30 December 1726, buried there 8 January 1726.

(2) Hannah baptised at Leonard Stanley 28 July 1728; buried there 7 August 1728.

(3) Elizabeth, baptised at Leonard Stanley 16 November 1729; buried there 16 September 1732.

2. Deborah, baptised at King Stanley 27 November1685; ? buried there 18 October 1691.

He ? married 2ndly Mary ? buried at Leonard Stanley 16 August 1729 and had issue:-

6. William Clotterbooke, of Stonehouse, born 13 January 1658, baptised at Leonard Stanley, 15 January 1658; ? buried 27 October 1728. married Dinah, she buried at Leonard Stanley 14 April 1713, and had issue:-

(i) Samuel Clutterbuck, of whom next (7).

(ii) William Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 30 November 1698, buried there 1 November 1772; ? married there 11 May 1723, Anne Blanch, she buried there 3 September 1727; and had issue:-

1. William Clutterbuck, buried Leonard Stanley 8 January 1728.

(iii) Thomas Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 29 January 1701; buried there 19 April 1704.

(iv) Thomas Clutterbuck baptised at Stonehouse 11 October 1704; ? married there 2 September 1725 Ruth Smith, she buried there 27 March 1743 as a widow. ? they had issue (NOTE:- no Clutterbuck baptised entry recorded at Stonehouse from 1710 until 1740) :-

2. Mary married at Stonehouse 16 May 1749 Richard Hodges.

3. Abigail married at Stonehouse 1 November 1757 William Walker.


7. Samuel Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley, baptised there 4 July 1695; ? buried there 11 June 1747 aged 51, m.i. married (license dated 23 May 1724), Mary Danford of Leonard Stanley then aged 30 and upwards; she was buried at Leonard Stanley 5 January 1766, leaving issue.


8. Samuel Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley, buried there 24 August 1787; married there 15 May 1748, Ruth Wilkins; she buried there 31 December 1774. ? buried there 22 December 1811.

Samuel Clutterbuck and Ruth Wilkins had issue:-

(i) Thomas Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 28 December 1748; ? father of :-

1. Sarah, baptised at Leonard Stanley 11 April 1784.

(ii) Samuel Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 26 March 1752; buried there 17 February 1754

9. John Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley, baptised there 11 May 1761, buried there 22 December 1809. Married there 26 December 1791 Hannah Laurence of Leonard Stanley, buried there 4 February 1839 age 79. Issue:-

(i) Samuel Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley, 23 June 1793; buried there 15 February 1822 aged 29.

(ii) William Clutterbuck, of whom next (10).

(iii) George Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley, 12 April 1801.

(iv) John Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 5 September 1802; buried there 17 August 1874 aged 73. In the 1851 census he is shown as aged 50, an Agricultural Labourer,  living with his brother William. By Elizabeth, his wife, buried at Leonard Stanley, 28 November 1830, aged 23 he had issue:-
1. Samuel Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 7 June 1829.

(v) Charles Clutterbuck baptised at Leonard Stanley 25 December 1805, buried there 24 April 1827 age 24.

(viii) Mary baptised at Leonard Stanley 25 December 1796.


10. William Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley, baptised there 7 October 1798, died at Stroud, buried at Leonard Stanley 10 June 1876, aged 78. His daughter Ann's baptism in 1836 records his occupation as Labourer. The 1851 census records him as aged 55, a Gardener and Pig Killer. He married at Leonard Stanley 31 March 1828, Elizabeth Lock of Leonard Stanley, buried there 15 January 1873 aged 66. In the 1851 census she is recorded as aged 44 years.

Had issue :-

(i) John Clutterbuck, "in the Guards at Windsor".  He was aged 17 on the 1851 census, living with his parents, and an Agricultural Labourer. By Mary his wife he had issue:
Ann Elizabeth, baptised at Leonard Stanley 8 October 1837. [This date, or the relationship, is wrong. William and Elizabeth married in 1828. John was born, according to 1851 census, around 1834, so he would have been three when Ann Elizabeth was born]

(ii) James Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 8 October 1837. Aged 14, a Cloth Worker, living with his parents in 1851.

(iii) Samuel Clutterbuck of whom next (11).

(iv) Alfred Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley, 27 October 1844, buried there 24 December 1863, aged 19. 1851 Census, aged 7, a scholar.

(v) Harriet, baptised at Leonard Stanley 11 April 1830, buried there 23 September 1840, aged 11.

(vi) Ann, baptised at Leonard Stanley 22 May 1836. Aged 15 at the 1851 census, a Cloth Worker living with her parents. [Note: Married Alfred James Flight]

(vii) Elizabeth, baptised at Leonard Stanley 3 May 1840. Aged 11 and already a Cloth Worker in the 1851 census.

(viii) Jane, baptised at Leonard Stanley 26 October 1851.Not recorded in the 1851 census, but a Ruth, aged 4 years is.


11. Samuel Clutterbuck of King Stanley, baptised at Leonard Stanley 24 July 1842. In the 1851 census he was a scholar, aged 8 years. He Married at King Stanley 1 August 1863, Harriet, daughter of Philip Heming of King Stanley and had issue :-

(i) William Philip Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 24 December 1863, buried there 31 January 1865, aged 2.

(ii) John James Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 27 August 1865.

(iii) Samuel Charles Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 16 May 1869.

(iv) William Philip Clutterbuck, baptised at Leonard Stanley 16 May 1869.

(v) Thomas Clutterbuck, born 1 April 1872, baptised at King Stanley 1 June 1873.

(vi) Jane Louisa, baptised Leonard Stanley 16 May 1869.


12. James Clutterbuck, was born in Gloucestershire, probably in King Stanley or Leonard Stanley, died at Charlton Co. Kent. Married Sarah Herbert. It is probable that this James Clutterbuck was the 6th son of John Clutterbuck of Leonard Stanley (see 9), in which case he was baptised at Leonard Stanley 25 February 1810. Issue:-

13. Herbert Clutterbuck, Engineer, born in Gloucestershire 1835, died at Ilford, Essex, 1898. Married ........ Hiles, who died about 1862 and had issue (with a son who died in infancy) :-

14. Herbert Clutterbuck, of Clacton on Sea, Civil and Mechanical Engineer, M.I.Mech.E., born in London 19 March 1859, married Mary Ellen, daughter of Charles May Jeffries and Fanny Streeter, his wife. Issue:-

(i) Herbert Charles Clutterbuck, born 1886; married.

(ii) Arthur Charles Clutterbuck, born 1889; married.

(iii) Reginald Mark Clutterbuck, born 1891; married.

(iv) Ellen Lavinia, born 1888; married.

(v) Ethel Violet Fanny, born 1893, died in infancy.


15. John Clutterbuck of King Stanley [3rd son of Samuel Clutterbuck (5)], baptised at Leonard Stanley 1664; ? buried at King Stanley 19 December 1718. Married at King Stanley 8 April 1686/7 Bridget Wood, she was then aged 25; buried at King Stanley 8 March 1710. They had issue:-

(i) John Clutterbuck baptised King Stanley 29 January 1692.

(ii) Samuel Clutterbuck baptised King Stanley 28 December 1694; ? buried there 6 October 1701.

(iii) William Clutterbuck baptised King Stanley 15 January 1697; ? buried there 15 January 1699.

(iv) Thomas Clutterbuck of whom next (16).

(v) Jane; ? married King Stanley 20 April 1713, John Heaven of Leonard Stanley.

(vi) Elizabeth.

(vii) Ann baptised King Stanley 21 January 1703.


16. Thomas Clutterbuck of Rodborough, baptised at King Stanley 16 August 1701; buried at Rodborough 18 January 1787. Married at Rodborough 24 December 1724, Sarah Jones of Rodborough, she buried there 8 December 1768. Issue:-

(i) Samuel Clutterbuck, baptised at Rodborough 8 February 1727/8.

(ii) Luke Clutterbuck of Rodborough, baptised there 21 September 1737; married there 1761 Sarah Walsh of Rodborough; according to her monumental inscription she died 27 October 1807 aged 74: buried at Rodborough 10 October 1807 [that is what is written!].

Issue:- Elizabeth and Mary, baptised Rodborough 15 July 1763. Mary buried there 15 July 1763.

Rebeckah, baptised Rodborough 9 April 1766; ? married there 13 September 1789, William Gabb.

(iii) Mary, baptised Rodborough 10 January 1724/5, buried there 10 January 1725/6. [?]

(iv) Mary baptised Rodborough 12 November 1725.

(v) Sarah baptised Rodborough 12 May 1732.

(vi) Anne baptised Rodborough 30 December 1734.

(vii) Rebecca baptised Rodborough 13 August 1740, buried there 8 February 1743/4.
